EVENT TO BE ANNOUNCED

EVENT TO BE ANNOUNCED

To All,

The Michael Overall Golf Classic was held on June 21, 2010.  With temperatures approaching or exceeding 100 degrees, no wind and high humidity the setting was perfect for the first day of Summer and golf in Texas.

The day began with numerous volunteers and supporters of Mike Overall gathering in the Magnolia Room of the Idylwild Golf Club of Sour Lake, Texas to set up the silent auction items and to staff registration.  The items had come from all over the United States and other countries as well.  The many handcrafted items came in with well wishes and a and tremendous amounts of love was expressed in each package.  Some of the additional spotlight items included autographed CD set from country singer and Beaumont area favorite son Mark Chesnutt.  Nick Price from the PGA tour sent and autographed Cap and Glove worn in his last Champions Tour Victory.  Masters and Colonial Champion Zack Johnson sent an autographed cap and photo.  Local legend of Beaumont area Bruce Lietzke sent autographed balls.

Lunch was provided by Rudy's Kabobs.  Only one word describes how wonderful those were... FANTASTIC!!!

At 1:00 pm everyone hit the links.  The shotgun event started smoothly and was proceeding just fine for about 12 holes until the clouds began rumbling.  As the darkening skies began to cover the course rain followed.  What began as a light rain soon became a downpour.  Some severe bolts of lightning drove everyone in to the clubhouse.  After about 45 minutes nearly 2" of rain had fallen.  All soaked, I looked around and noticed everyone still were smiling.  It had been a good day.

All the players drifted to the Magnolia Room and participated heavily in the Silent Auction.
The Dinner was provided by Billy Joe's BBQ of Port Neches, Texas and was delicious.  In addition to the golfers, numerous friends of Mike's attended the dinner ad participated in he auction.

Two Flights were established for The Mike Overall Golf Classic.  The Championship Flight was called the "M" Flight and the First Flight the "O" Flight.  Since the event was called due to inclimate weather, places were determined on the basis of the first 9 holes played from the starting position.  Not enough common holes were played to determine a common base of scoring.  Therefore all participants were in fact winners for participating and supporting Mike Overall.

At about 7:15 pm the event was concluded and was considered a huge success.  Parting wishes and renewed ties to Mike were evident as all left the course after a memorable day.

The Overall family has been overwhelmed by the support and so thankful with the response to this benefit effort.

Sincerely,

Johnny Andrews
Tournament Chairman
